This week we’re highlighting the wonder ingredient that is ‘Stinging Nettle’.
Stinging Nettle? Surely that can’t be used in hair care products?
That, our friends, is where you are severely mistaken! This humble ingredient is a crucial component to many BondiBoost products; plus, an absolute powerhouse in promoting hair growth. Intrigued yet? We thought you’d say that! Keep reading as we give you a full break down on everything there is to know about this miracle ingredient.
What is Stinging Nettle?
If we’re getting scientific (ahem, *clears throat*), Stinging Nettle is a herbaceous perennial flowering plant in the Urticaceae family. Fun fact: don’t be fooled by this plant’s name as not all varieties actually sting! Only five of the six stinging nettle species have hollow stinging hairs (trichomes).
Ouch! Sounds painful! Are they dangerous?
Although painful, when harvested and used correctly, the plant doesn’t prove to be dangerous.
What are they used for?
Stinging nettle is a nutritious plant popular in Western herbal medicine. Studies suggest that it may reduce inflammation, hay fever symptoms, blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
That’s great, but why is BondiBoost so crazy about stinging nettle? What benefits could it possibly have for your hair?
Ahhhh, this is where the fun begins! We use stinging nettle as a superstar ingredient in many of our hair care products for its incredible ability to stimulate blood circulation in the scalp. This circulation encourages follicle rejuvenation which leads to hair growth (see where we are going with this?).
What’s more, stinging nettle is also extremely rich in silica and sulphur. These properties are ace in helping achieve lustrous, shiny locks (ticks all round)!
Pssst! Lucky for our #boostbabes, many of your favourite BondiBoost Hair Growth products are formulated with this miracle ingredient already. The below products all contain stinging nettle extract:
- Hair Growth Shampoo/Conditioner
- Intensive Growth Spray
- Growth Miracle Mask
