Are You Using Your Dry Shampoo The Wrong Way?

Ah, dry shampoo. Our everyday hero for between washes. The only way we can walk into work after a hectic gym sesh. The handbag staple for anyone with bangs. You use it, but do you really use it? See, loads of people around the world are using their dry shampoo the wrong way. That means going through bottles way faster than you should be and results that are good but not amazing.

Here’s how to do it right.

  • Hit The Roots

Dry shampoo is designed to absorb excess moisture, be that hair oils or sweat. So you want to get it right where that stuff is hanging out – your roots. Don’t just spray it on the surface of your hair, lift sections and get it where it’s needed. You’ll evenly distribute the product too, which means less needs to be used.

  • Let It Settle

Before brushing or styling, let the dry shampoo do its job. It takes a few minutes for the powder to absorb moisture, and brushing it through immediately will pull it away from your roots and down the hair shaft. If you’re short on time, brush hair before applying dry shampoo, then just go about your day once it’s in.

  • Massage For Volume

If you’re using dry shampoo to get some volume and texture at your roots, applying it isn’t enough. Instead, mist at the roots underneath sections you want volumised, then massage it in. This lifts your strands and allows the powder to boost texture.

Dry Shampoo Do’s + Don’ts

Do: Shake before use. Because dry shampoo is a powder formulation, it can settle at the bottom of the can, so giving it a good shake will mix the formulation well.

Don’t: Leave it too long between washes. While it’s super convenient to soak up excess oil when you’re in a rush, dry shampoo isn’t a real shampoo replacement.

Do: Check those ingredients. Some dry shampoos contain harsh chemicals that you prob don’t want on your scalp.

Don’t: Spray it all over. You’ll waste heaps of product without the so-fresh-so-clean results.

PSA: Not All Dry Shampoos Are The Same

We made our HG Dry Shampoo different because we wanted it to care for your scalp and strands. That’s why we’ve used natural Rice Starch as an oil and sweat absorber, teamed with plant-derived Fatty Acids to nourish your lengths and Rosemary Extract to prevent breakage and boost elasticity.
