Hair Bonds 101

All About Hair Bonds And Why They Matter

Hair bonds are definitely one of the most talked-about aspects of hair health in the industry right now! With good reason - new technology means we can repair strands instead of just waiting for the damage to grow out (slowly…) or cutting it all off when it seems unsalvageable.

But what exactly is a hair bond? How does hair bond technology work to repair strands? If you’re curious, we’ve got you covered.

What are hair bonds?
Hair bonds hold each strand together. There are three types in your hair’s structure - hydrogen, covalent and ionic. When these bonds are damaged, hair will look rough, dull, and lack shine. Oh, and over time you’ll see loads of broken strands and split ends. Not ideal!

What do bond builders do?
Unlike old-school products that used to just mask damage temporarily, bond repair addresses it at a molecular level. It gets to and rebuilds these broken bonds, so it’s no quick, temporary fix. They’re especially useful when used during or after damaging processes like hair bleaching or other colour treatments because they provide protection from the damage they usually cause.
